Abstract: To improve their safety performance, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) deployed a combined treatment of shoulder rumble stripes, shoulder widening (from 0 to 2 feet) and pavement resurfacing (abbreviated as RSR in this article) to more than 400 centerline miles of rural two-lane roadways. This study calculated the crash modification factors (CMF) for the RSR treatment using the Empirical Bayesian (EB) before/after study method.
